This morning in Courage Circle Mr. Bhachu was excited because there will be a provincial election on April 16th. We discussed who our leaders are in Calgary and Alberta. Many students knew who Mayor Nenshi was. Some students knew who Premier Notley was. After we did in Math. In math, we did number talks and practiced using Part-Part-Whole with subtraction. It was challenging for many students. Next on computers we read books on Epic to get information for our slideshows. After gym we came back and started organizing our finished work for Student Led Conferences. At the end of the day, our buddies came and helped us with our Slideshows.

Today in Courage Circle, everybody felt happy and some topics that were discussed included Tall Buildings and How we can make a circle with straight lines. Laydon was super happy because he lost his top front tooth that was bothering him. After Number Talks, we had gym and music. In literacy, we started to draw a landscape picture of the Arctic based on Ted Harrison's style. We did presentations in the Afternoon. We looked at people's Arctic Slideshows and gave feedback. After recess, we had time to make changes to our Arctic slideshow based on the feedback that was given to students.
Homework: Talk to your parents about Student-Led Conferences. Ask your parents to clean your lunch bags over the break. Blog written by Monsieur Bhachu, and his cool students. Today we learned a new strategy in math that helps us to see the relationship between addition and subtraction. We worked on ensuring everything is in Iris. Expanding sentences was worked on. Gym and music were today. To finish the day we worked on our posters.
Homework: tell your parents about our new math strategy and how it can be used for addtion and subtraction. In Circle, we had a conversation about countable non-countable nouns and how we have to use the words "much" and "many". After that we reviewed the expectations of our Arctic Slideshow and discussed what our different slides could be about. After recess we played addition games with dice. Next, we started creating posters describing How We Stay Healthy. After lunch we went back on to the computers and worked on our Arctic Slideshows. We had gym and then continued work on our posters.
Homework: Create 5 sentences with much and many. We did number talks after circle. We finished circle early so we had time for games. After circle, we had number talks. We learned strategies for adding 11 to a given amount. Next we had Language talks and we worked in groups to add adjectives and adverbs to simple sentences.
After snacks we started Auction. After lunch we had to review expectation for our arctic slideshow and then we worked on it. We also had a spelling test and some math work in the afternoon. Some students are asking for more food at lunch, please make sure you bring enough food for the day. Homework: Talk to your parents about how much food you need for lunch. In Courage Circle, almost everyone shared. Then we had number talks. In number talks, Justin was our teacher. He chose which questions to write on the board. After number talks we did language talks. In language talks, we worked in groups to find simple and complex sentences in our quiet reading books. After we did that, we had gym and music. When we came back from music we did a writing task. We had to write about how we stay healthy. We tried use ideas that we have learned about over the last few days. After lunch and quiet reading some people worked on their Arctic Slideshow and others continued their writing for how to stay healthy. After recess, we came back in and shared our writing by reading it to the class. Then we had Auction. We didn't finish auctioning off all the jobs. We will continue tomorrow.

Criteria: - Grade level writing (complete sentences, correct spelling, details, correct punctuation, double checked) - Pictures match words - All questions are answered - Good organization of pictures and words - Slides show understanding of living in the Arctic This morning we began our Auction Reflection right after we finished our Courage Circle. In our Auction Reflection we had to write about how we can help our classroom learn better. Some examples included remaining in our seats when working, listening to instructions when given, refraining from fidgeting in circle to prevent distracting others. and so on. After recess, we quickly got our shoes off and coats off so we could watch The Juggler on NFB. It was an interesting story about a Juggler who loses a ball and the people he meets along the way who try to help him. After lunch when we got back to class we saw that Laydon was back. We read quietly and then went to gym and music. To finish the day we collected our Auction earnings and completed unfinished work.
Homework: Tell your parents what you learned about the Canada Games. In Circle we did our Thank you's to each other and appreciated each other's help. After that we worked without lights for No Power Hour. We used this time to act out short stories we wrote in groups. In our reading groups some groups were able to create 2 stories. It was interesting to watch each other's skits. To finish the day we worked on a new word problem.
Homework: Tell your parents about our Math Problem and our Dramatic Story Telling. In the morning, we had a substitute teacher because Mr. Bhachu was away. First, we used computers to work on our Arctic Slideshows. We still have information to add. We had a circle second which was a little different. After circle we played games and then did number talks. When we came back from recess we used our Visual Journals to create a page about Healthy Food Choices based on the article we read. If people were done they were able to work on their Auction reflection. When we came back from lunch we were happy to be greeted by our favorite teacher, Mr. Bhachu. After quiet reading we did wrote sentences with homophones and shared them. Next we had gym and when we came back we read a letter from another school in Canada. The school is in Steinbach, Manitoba.
Homework: Tell your parents about homophones. Blog written by students who contributed. This morning we had a quick circle which left us with enough time to play "Go, Jump, Go". Then we tried something new in Number talks. We got in to small groups and acted out subtraction. Next we used computers for literacy and then we went to gym. Following gym, we went through a math test that we wrote yesterday and we were given time to make corrections. Then we had lunch and quiet reading followed. Next we discussed how we can help the class learn when Mr. Bhachu is out of or in the room. We recorded these ideas in our Auction scribblers. After recess, we worked on reading a newspaper article about healthy eating and food choices.
