In the morning we had Courage Circle. Kabir shared that he really liked the substitute teacher from yesterday morning. Today we spent a lot of time on identifying the beginning, middle and end of stories. Initially we watched a movie and as a group shared what happened in the story. We found common elements of the beginning of stories. We continued this work after recess and watched another movie which we then retold in our own words, independently. In the afternoon we used charts to identify differences between Calgary in the past and now. To finish the day we heard one last story called Maq.
Homework: Tell your parents about the beginning, middle and end of the story Maq. Blog written by an independent Mr. Bhachu. In Courage circle almost everybody share. We had a guest teacher in the morning for 30 minutes. She liked the circle games we taught her. On computers we spent 10 minutes practicing typing and then we did individual reading in Raz Kids. We recorded ourselves reading and we had to retell the story and answer questions. After gym we continued working on our certificates for Bridlewood. We are celebrating things that make Bridlewood special. After lunch we read quietly while Mr. Bhachu worked with individual students. Next we worked on our silhouettes which we started with our buddies last week. After recess we had a test to see if we can talk about things that make Bridlewood special and why.
Homework: Tell your parents what makes Bridlewood community special. Blog written by a hiccuping Mr. Bhachu and his forgiving students. In Courage Circle people had interesting ideas to share. In Language Arts we had a quiz on writing complete sentences. We got mixed up sentences and had to re-write them correctly. Many students forgot periods and capital letters. We need to keep working on this. We went to the learning commons before gym and music and when we got back we worked on prodigy and Raz Kids. In Raz Kids we had a reading test. In social studies after lunch we worked on identifying what makes our community special. We then made certificates to celebrate a quality of Bridlewood. We will continue this tomorrow.
Homework: Ask your parents what makes Bridlewood special. Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his bundled up students. In courage Circle almost everybody was feeling good. In math we thought about equations that we just know the answers to, equations that require some thought but we can solve in our head and equations that we need tools such as fingers, blocks or writing to solve. We worked with individual whiteboards for this activity. After recess we worked on combining sentences with words like "because, so, then, and, but..." After lunch we read before going to gym and music. We had auction to end the day. We didn't finish getting jobs so we will continue tomorrow.
Homework: Add 10 to five different 2 digit numbers. For example, 10 + 32 = 42, 10 + 16 = 26, etc. Do you notice a pattern? Blog started by Justin and completed by Mr. Bhachu In Courage Circle, many students were away so we got through quickly. Next we worked on spelling numbers, adding and subtracting 2, and identifying odd and even numbers in Math. Next we went to the learning commons to do a book exchange. Then we had a double gym class instead of music. After, we went to Ms. O's class to learn about Albert Culture in Social Studies. Lunch was next. After we read quietly for 15 minutes and then we went into reading groups. Recess was next and then we worked on finishing our math and then worked on a slideshow for the prairie. Not everyone got to computers. Now we are writing the blog.
Homework: skip count forward and backwards by 2's. Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his half present assistants. To start the day off in Courage Circle everyone was feeling really good. We had computers to finish writing our About Me in google documents. Some students helped edit others work as well as helped color our big Canada map. After we had snack and recess. Recess was slippery. Laydon slipped 3 times but he didn't cry. When it was reading groups we had to keep track of time so we could present to the class. All groups got a chance to read aloud to the class. After lunch we had buddies. We painted with our buddies. We learned how to mix white with a color to make it lighter. We painted cats and moonlight falling from the moon. In social studies/math we drew a map of Alberta using rulers and measurements. Then we labeled our maps by looking at an Alberta road map.
Homework: Tell your parents the names of different Alberta cities you know. Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his worldly assistants. Today in Courage Circle we learned that the olympics wouldn't come to Calgary because we voted no. In Social Studies we continued exploring Canada by drawing our own maps and labelling them. We had computers next. On computers we started by practicing typing on Dance Mat and then worked on our writing. After we went to gym and then lunch. After lunch we read quietly and then we learned about Expanding Sentences. We had to re-write sentences by adding more description. After recess we worked on math by using number lines for subtraction.
Homework: Show your parents how to use number lines for subtraction. Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his growling students. Today we had Courage Circle to start the day. We sang Happy Birthday to Areeba. Yesterday we sang happy birthday to Landon. Next we had True or False Tuesday in Math. Next we went to the learning commons to get new books and then we went to gym and music. We had to write a reflection about what should happen to students who run down the hall before we went for lunch. After lunch we read quietly until we started reading groups. We worked in new groups with new books. After recess we continued talking about Alberta and we understand that it has lots of prairie land.
Homework: Talk to your parents about places you have been in Alberta. Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his eager (to leave) students. In Courage Circle we shared about our weekend quickly so we could get to math and computers. Students needed to use number lines to finish previous class work. When completed we were able to use computers to write a new biography using what we have learned about writing and ourselves. This new piece of writing will be compared to our old biography written at the beginning of the school year. After snack and recess we went into reading groups and we practiced reading aloud clearly. This was practice for presenting to the class. We had to take many chances with this activity. After lunch we read quietly until we went to gym and music. Mr. Bhachu read with individual students during this time. When we came back we worked on labelling an Alberta map with the missing names of cities.
