Today in Courage Circle everybody shared something interesting about the weekend. Then we did Make it Monday for Number Talks. Some people are becoming better at using strategies for solving equations. Then we had computers. On computers we had to go to Epic to get information for a school project. Then Ms. Wagonblast came in and started reading an article about Asian carp to us. After lunch we had a fire drill. Then we went to music and Gym. When we came back we finished working on our article. There was math in solving problems.

Today in Courage Circle people shared thank you's. Then people in choir left for choir practice. The rest of us worked on number talks. In math, we worked with partners to design a pencil holder. This required thinking about measurement. Next we worked on our boats and putting videos of our boats into Iris.
Homework: Say the names of your family members in order from shortest to tallest. To start the day we did Courage circle and shared what we did yesterday. We had a discussion about babies being unpredictable. Next in number talks it was "What's Missing Thursday?". After number talks we were introduced to some math problems. After recess we solved those problems. Some students read an article about the Arctic and answered some questions from the article as well as labelled a map. After lunch we read the Wild Robot and we were asked to compare ourselves to Roz using a Venn Diagram. After we continued building our boats. Most people were able to start their second boat and add details. To finish the day we watched people's video's of them testing their first boats.
Homework: What shapes do you see in your kitchen? What units can you use to measure water? Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his full of ideas, crafty students. In Courage Circle we shared what we did on the long weekend. In math we started thinking about measurement and standard units. We measured Keyn using markers. He is 11 markers tall. After library, gym and music we came back to work on our boats. We reviewed our rubric before starting. Then we had lunch. After lunch we read quietly and then Mr. Bhachu read the Wild Robot while we sketched our thinking. Next we worked on our boats for a short time before we went for recess. After we continued working on our boats. Some students were able to test their boats.
Homework: How tall is your sibling or parent in pencils? Blog written by Mr. Bhachu and his Boat Building Students. (Justin's Idea) In Courage Circle we were quick so we could jump into Number Talks (Yay Justin). In Number Talks we changed it up a little (Yay Bodhi) by guessing what the next 3 numbers in a pattern were. We also worked on finding out the rule of a pattern. We also had a math test around increasing and decreasing patterns. Then we played a game, had snack and then gym. When we came back Mr. Bhachu read The Wild Robot to us. Roz has adopted a gosling and has built a shelter for them with the help of a beaver family. Some students sketched pictures of what they visualized during that time. After lunch, we worked on Science. We did an experiment and recorded our observations. Next we designed our project for building a boat. Please see it below.
Homework: Tell your parents about the experiment. What did you learn? Why did the egg float in the salt water? Rescue Boat Project Task: Design a boat for the maritime provinces that rescues people who need to evacuate their boat at sea. Think about: -Shape -Size -Waterproofness -Maneuverability -Strength and Sturdiness -Balance -Buoyancy -Getting people on and off your boat Design your boat: -What materials are you going to use? (Make a list.) -How will it look? (Draw a picture and label the parts) Build and Double Check your Boat: (Answer Yes or No) Is it strong and sturdy? Is it waterproof? Is it very heavy? Can it hold people? Is there anything you need to change? Test your boat: Did it float? Why or why not? What will you change? Today in Circle everybody felt happy. We read a postcard that came to us from London, Ontario and Peace River, Alberta. When we finished that we played Simon Says before we went to the learning commons. In the learning commons we read and chose new books. After we went to gym and music. Next we read an article about coyotes living in the city and answered questions about them. We also learned about Idioms. Justin's favorite idiom is "It's raining cats and dogs!". Calin says his favorite idiom is "Grab your seats!". To finish the day we conducted 2 different science experiments.
Homework: Tell your parents what the Testable Questions were and what your hypothesis were. Today we did our Thank you's in the morning. We also had a gym period this morning. We spent the rest of the day exploring the geographical areas of Canada and creating a gift for our Mothers. Have a great weekend.
Today we had a quick circle so we could play Sam Yuk Gu and Go, Back, Jump. We had to be quick with our answers or we would be eliminated. Work it out Wednesday for Number talks was next. We had to solve and communicate how we solved different equations that were given. To practice our writing we had to write descriptive sentences to explain a number sentence. We had snack followed by gym. When we came back we worked on our big map of Canada collage. Some students worked on making flags for the provinces while others made mountains and trees. After lunch we read a little and then we made a visual journal page about waterproof materials. Then we finished our Auction before recess. When we came back some students worked on finishing their VJ page and others worked on their slideshows and epic.
Homework: Test something to see if it is waterproof. Today in Courage Circle it was fast so we played a fast game of Sum Yuk Gu. In number talks we did True or False Tuesday. Some students forgot how to use the symbols greater than and less than. It was a good review. Then we went to the Learning Commons, Gym and Music. Next we had Language Talks to warm up by thinking of synonyms for words. Then we had to write sentences to describe an event without saying the name of the event. After lunch, quiet reading and The Wild Robot we used computers for free time if you were finished your auction work. After recess, some students were finishing their auction work and others were working on our Canadian Map Collage. Then we started Auction, Ayub is our new Smartboarder. We will finish tomorrow to determine the other jobs.
Homework: Practice greater than and less than number sentences. For example, 58 is greater than 35. Blog written by Rm. 82 students. Today in Circle we shared our thank you's. Because we were missing many students we were able to play more games. Then we went on to our maps. We cut out pieces of our art to put on to the big map. Then we had snack and recess. After recess we did auction for the rest of the day.
